About Portia Rose
I have lived in South London my whole life. I began sewing at university aged 21 and fell in love with it. I went on to train in Bespoke Tailoring and then worked on Savile Row and in the costume industry, making costumes for productions like Stranger Things: The First Shadow, Operation Mincemeat and Gentleman in Moscow.
After gaining this experience I felt confident enough to take the plunge and set up Portia Rose. It focuses on sustainable clothing, whether that be bespoke tailoring, altering already existing clothing, or made-to-measure pieces. I have a love for natural dyeing, especially indigo dyeing, and so much of my work is made with hand-dyed fabrics, and all pieces are made with natural materials.
In 2021 I spent the summer converting my parents’ basement in Tooting into my own little studio, taking on all the decorating and building myself. Although I have now made the move to South East London and live in Herne Hill, I go back to my studio every day to work - lucky I didn’t move very far away!
